Love Rains Supreme: Preparing for the Possibility of Showers of Love

Spring Long Island weddings are in full bloom and, along with April celebrations come April showers. Here’s how you can ensure the show goes and will have you and your guests “singing in the rain”.
1. A Secure Location: Make sure your Long Island wedding venue has not only an arena for an al fresco celebration but for taking the party inside if the great outdoors, due to weather is OUT. Have a room set aside and ready to go just in case of high winds or rain.
2. Don’t Keep Your Guests Guessing: Make sure your guests are aware of your outdoorsy intentions and come prepared for the challenges the weather may bring. You should also set up a website where guests can check in for additional information and weather updates. Last, but not least, you may want to send out “in case of rain” cards with your invitations.

Professional Forecasts: Ask you vendors, who’ve done this before how they handle weather conditions….they will be helpful in helping you put a workable plan in place as well as informing you of how THEY handle each type of unfavorable weather situation. You’ll also want to work with your chef and discuss any necessary last minute menu “changes” such as switches from something chilled to something hot and warming.

Puddle Puzzles: Think about how you will need to handle your rainy wedding day and consider accommodating guests who may now need a place for jackets and umbrellas, how this will affect your cocktail hour, and the rest of your otherwise outdoor extravaganza. Factor in ALL these factors and make sure you have a plan for accommodating your guests.
5. Rain Gear: Consider wearing rain boots (in lieu of sandals or shoes) to bear the rainstorm. You may also want to opt for a weather resistant updo in lieu of loose locks that you risk losing their shape in the “storm’ and make sure you and your wedding party and guests are properly prepared with a little something (like a shrug or sweater) to keep you warm.
